Thursday Theory

I came up with ‘Thursday theory’ in 2004. In Kuala Lumpur, if you notice every thursday, it is usually more jam than usual. And yes, it happens every thursday. Reason? I have no idea!!! People love to drive on thursday? or business men and women meet up on thursday? I really really don’t know. After years of observation, I decided to call it ‘Thursday theory’.

Ever since I came over to UK, I have long forgotten about ‘Thursday theory’ BUT! I have came out with a new ‘Thursday theory’. People are in rude/bad mood particularly on Thursday. Reason? No idea yet. Maybe Friday is so near yet so far, so I really do not know the reason, but  I will definitely do my research on this! Had so many rude customers today, and some staffs are in bad mood, including myself! Shern did not have a good day either, so thus-Thursday theory was ‘reborn’ again!

Ikea drama….

Shern and I had a day off on Tuesday, so we decided to go to Ikea to buy some furniture. We wrote down all the items we want and off we went. It’s in Edmonton, so we took a tube and a bus. When we got there, we feel so at home! It’s exactly the same design (duh!) We started off with the big items, cupboards, shelves etc…Wrote down the number, and look for some more.

We took a lunch break, and it was delicious! Well, not the fish and chips though. We continued on to the smaller items. We took what we wanted and moved on to taking the furniture boxes. Boy, that was really heavy. We took everything we need, and off we went to pay. Everything was quite smooth, till we hit the home delivery.

The delivery is only available on the next day, which is great right? NO!!! If you want it immediately, then yes, for us, no. We needed it to be delivered on another day, and they said they can’t. They do not have the storage to put it in. Solution??? REFUND!!!! We have to return everything we bought! We spent the whole day looking for furniture, taking it off from the shelves, and now we have to RETURN everything!!! I so Miss Malaysia!!!!

We were so reluctant but we had no choice. By the time we finished everything it was 5:30pm. We took a bus, 192, and it went to the wrong direction! We quickly made the next exit, and was finding another bus stop. We walked for abt 8 mins, and just couldn’t find a bus stop. Luckily a passer by told us the bus stop was where there were one lady standing over the other side. We looked at it, and there was no bus stop! So we waited with the lady, and 10 mins later, a bus came =.= It is what they called hail and ride section, means you can stop the bus anytime. =.=

What a day!!!!!

p/s: Shern wants to boycott Ikea for not being flexible. :p

Look Up…

I was in the bathroom one night, trying to look for my toothpaste. I looked down, right left, around, and I just couldn’t find it. I found another toothpaste but it’s just not what I wanted. And behold, when I look up, my TOOTHPASTE!!! I found my toothpaste lying on the soap holder. It was there all along! =.=

Sometimes I find myself in the same situation. When there’s trouble or difficulty, I tend to look right left, around to solve it, but I still find myself in the same situation, not going anywhere. And all it takes, is LOOK UP to the Almighty God, who is constantly looking after us.

Remember to LOOK UP!

Customers….

After I started this job, serving people, it makes me realize how much I miss Malaysia, and how much more ‘chin chai’ (non-fussy) people are back home. The amount of ‘rubbish’ I get from people here are incredible…

First of, I’m working in a food court restaurant, it’s not even a restaurant. Just a little bit more ‘high class’ (hence the price), like Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur. As we, Malaysians are very familiar with the food court term, where else it’s fairly new to the people here (I’m actually quite surprised). So in food court, all you do is order food, pay, and collect food from the counter. Easy right? NO!

All time question I get from people:

1. Is there a waiter or waitress who will take the food to me?
Answer: NO!!! It’s a food court!!!

2. Why are your drinks so expensive?
Back in Malaysia, we just order a drink and pay, regardless whether it’s cheap or expensive. We don’t complain, even if we do, we complain to ourselves. HERE??? They complain like mad!!! It’s like they are born to COMPLAIN! ‘Why is your drink so expensive? I can get it from the supermarket for £??’ My all time answer: ‘buzz off!!!! get it from supermarket then!’ Of course I don’t say that, all I can do is smile, and wish they can just go away. And you know what, in the end, they will still buy =.=

3. So what food do you sell? Chinese food?
=.= Just because I’m chinese, doesn’t mean I work for a chinese restaurant! I’m working for Carribean Restaurant, so no chinese food! Looks can be SO deceiving.

4. Do you have dumplings, oxtails, soup, fish, goat curry, mac and cheese, festivals, patties etc etc etc…
Mate, even if you are in a British restaurant, you won’t have ALL of the british food. People expect us to have thousands of items in the menu. I understand we need to expand the menu, but we focus on quality not quantity. And when I tell people that we don’t have, their reaction will always be like it’s the end of the world! ‘What do you mean you don’t have this???!!’ My answer: ‘ errr…eat somewhere else!!!’ Again, I don’t say that, I wish!

Oh!!!! Sometimes I really wish I don’t have to serve rude customers, but it’s part of the job. Just need to forget about it and don’t think too much about it, else I’m wasting not only my energy but my time! I always tell myself, what goes around comes around. They will get the same treatments some where else. One more day to go till weekend comes!

*Not all customers are like what I have mentioned above, just some. :p

Tired…

It has been a month since I started working. I love working in the mall but at the same time I missed working in a office 😥 Back in KL, I do not need to stand for 8 hours, carry heavy stuff, check for things, count the safe etc etc etc…But I’m thankful to have this opportunity to be in a restaurant business. Although I might not be long in this industry, it might come in handy in the future :p My manager even asks me to work towards becoming an Assistant Manager. In my mind, I’m not even sure I will stay that long!

When I come back home, usually will be about 6:30pm, thankfully I have my mother in law over. She cooks dinner, helps out around the house. And I now sleeps around 10pm! I’m getting old :p

*Yawn*
